this is an act of social interaction terrorism. a rift in the fabric of society. no one will never know if patrons are really faking that tap they’re paying for.
this is a big deal, people.

“Cookie Puss has the ability to fly, though he requires a saucer-shaped spacecraft for interplanetary travel.” — i’m not sure we grasp what a society where wikipedia’s articles represent the most extensive body of shared cultural knowledge of our time, are leaving behind for future generations to discover about us.

“I got a call from the VP of anti-piracy at one of the majors. After I picked up the phone his first words were, “Justin, I just have one question for you: where do I send the summons and complaint?” The conversation picked up from there.” —

justin ouellette on his experience of building muxtape.com, and why he ultimately ended up canning the project.

most interesting to me is how there’re conflicting interests deep within departments of the big 4 label companies as well as between them. obligatory reading for anyone interested in a behind-the-scenes look into digital copyright management.

the only thing i don’t get is why justin just didn’t release the source code for anyone to set up their own muxtape website, in response to the forced shutdown.

jimray just provided me with one of those falling-in-love-with-the-internet-all-over-agagin moments:

“Two recommendations for you. First, install the InstapaperIt browser extension, which will let you add any link to Instapaper with a simple right or option click.

Next, head over to Kevin Kelly’s excellent collection of best magazine articles ever and queue them all up.

May you never find yourself wanting for something interesting to read.”

lots and lots (and lots!) of quality writing in that list. among others:

if you need me, you can find me in bed with my ipad and instapaper app for the duration of the day.
